The Endless Dive

Pilot a modular sub into an alien abyss.

About the game

The Endless Dive sends your modular submarine into an alien ocean where every dive goes deeper than the last. Waves of abyssal creatures press in while you steer between fights, keeping turrets loaded, repaired and upgraded. Each dive is unique, and if your submarine is destroyed you start over from scratch with only your knowledge of the depths carrying over.

Game features

  • Modular submarine whose turrets are upgraded individually across three families: MachineGun, RailGun and DiscSawGun
  • A live stat panel for the selected turret tracks HP, damage, attack speed, ammo count, repair time and reload time
  • Upgrade rounds offer three-card picks: swap turret type, cut reload time, or boost hull health and turret rotation speed
  • A depth counter in meters marks every stage of the descent, and the palette sinks from navy-and-orange shallows to red-on-black deep water
  • Repair station mounted on the left side of the hull, with an on-screen prompt to press E for fast repairs when damage piles up
  • Permadeath runs: once the submarine is destroyed, the dive restarts from the surface and nothing carries over

How to play

Steer the submarine with WASD while its turrets hold off whatever swims out of the dark. Watch for Need Refill and Need Repair warnings on your guns and answer them between waves, because an empty or broken turret is dead weight. Press E at the repair station on the left side of the hull when damage piles up; the game flashes a fast-repair prompt when the hull is in real trouble. TAB opens the menu. Surviving earns upgrade points, which you spend on three-card choices that swap a turret, trim reload time or toughen the hull. Then keep diving and chase the depth counter.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Endless Dive free to play?

Yes. It launched as a free prototype for the 1-BIT JAM 8 game jam on itch.io, and it runs in your browser here with no download or account.

Does the game save my progress?

No. The Endless Dive is a roguelike with permadeath: when your submarine is destroyed the run ends and the next dive starts over from scratch. The title screen does keep your best depth on file as a RECORD, saved in your browser.

What are the controls?

WASD moves the submarine, E interacts with the repair station and TAB opens the menu. It is keyboard-only, so play on a computer.

How deep does the ocean go?

That is the mystery. The developers' pitch dares you to reach the ocean floor, if it exists, while your depth counter keeps climbing in meters as long as the hull holds.

Why is the audio so quiet?

The game was built for a jam in a one-bit art style, and players in the jam comments noted the sound runs quiet. The title screen has a SOUND VOLUME slider; drag it up before diving.

Who made The Endless Dive?

A six-person team, Andryuha, Uxedugagoh, artn413, ZZcat, Dear Lost Deer and GlebUrv, built it as an entry for the 1-BIT JAM 8 game jam.
