PriceGuessr
Guess what everyday things cost in cities around the world.
About the game
Priceguessr shows you an everyday item and asks what it costs where it was sold. Groceries, a pint, fuel, a month's rent — every price is real, drawn from official statistics offices and the open Open Prices database, and you answer in your own currency while the game converts it at the European Central Bank's rate. Each round pays up to 5,000 points based on how close your guess lands in percent, so a coffee counts as much as a month's rent. Take the shared daily challenge, trek a solo Expedition with bosses and perks, or fill a lobby with up to ten friends.

How to play
Each round shows a product photo, its category, the country and city where the price was recorded, and the month the price was collected. Type your estimate or drag the slider — the scale runs from pocket change to big-ticket items — then fine-tune with the ±5% and ±20% buttons and lock in your guess. The game converts it at the European Central Bank's rate and reveals the real price: up to 5,000 points, scaled by how close you were in percent. In an Expedition you start with 100 health, misses drain it, and every fifth round is a double-point boss that drops a perk if you survive. Practice mode runs endless with no health bar.
Tips & strategies
- 1.Think in percentages, not dollars — a coffee guessed a dollar off hurts more than a flat guessed a dollar off, so sweat the cheap items.
- 2.Nail the order of magnitude with the slider first, then polish with ±5% steps — full marks live within about 1% of the real price.
- 3.Over- and under-guessing are punished identically, so when torn between two numbers, pick the middle.
- 4.Anchor the universal items — Big Macs, pints and fuel — then read the country's cost level before guessing groceries or rent.
- 5.In Expedition, a streak of great guesses raises your multiplier to ×2; protecting it beats gambling on a wild number.
- 6.Save your steadiest estimating for the fifth-round boss — double points but harder health hits, and surviving it drops a perk.

Frequently asked questions
Is PriceGuessr free to play?
Yes. It runs right on this page in your browser — no download and no account. Anonymous players simply get a guest token in the browser that remembers preferences like currency.
Where do the prices come from?
From open data: official statistics offices in 10 countries, the Open Prices database by Open Food Facts, The Economist's Big Mac index and the EU's Weekly Oil Bulletin for fuel. Every product photo is credited next to the image.
Which currency do I guess in?
Your own. Pick from dozens of currencies, and the game converts your guess at the European Central Bank's rate from the day the price was recorded.
How does scoring work?
Each round is worth up to 5,000 points, and what counts is how many percent you are off, not how many dollars. Within about 1% earns full marks, 10% off is roughly 3,400 and 25% off about 2,050.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Create a lobby, share the six-character code and play live with up to ten people — computer players can fill empty seats. Ranked duels pit you one on one over ten rounds for a league rating.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The game is built for touch: drag the slider, tap the fine-tune buttons and type your guess right on the screen.
