Cat sudoku logic puzzle

Meowdoku

A cozy cat sudoku with a no-touching twist.

About the game

Meowdoku is a cozy cat sudoku where every row, column and color region holds exactly one cat — and no two cats may touch, not even diagonally. Boards open with a locked starter cat, and Smart Marks Auto X flags every cell a placed cat blocks, so the elimination grid builds itself as you reason. Five boards keep it fresh: 6×6 Easy, 8×8 Normal, 10×10 Hard, a Daily Puzzle and Progressive Mode, each with its own timer, best time and solved counter.

Game features

  • Every board enforces four rules at once: one cat per row, one per column, one per color region, and no two cats touching — not even diagonally
  • Five ways to play: 6×6 Easy, 8×8 Normal, 10×10 Hard, a fresh Daily Puzzle and Progressive Mode
  • Smart Marks Auto X automatically flags every cell a newly placed cat blocks, so eliminations appear the moment you commit a cat
  • Add your own X marks with a long press or right click whenever you want eliminations noted by hand
  • Undo, Hint and Restart sit beside the board, and the Hint points to one useful move rather than solving the board for you
  • A timer, best-time record, solved counter and mistake tracker sit above the board, and named boards like Cozy Path give each grid a title
  • Boards open with a locked starter cat already placed, and every cell carries a row, column and region label for screen readers

How to play

Choose a board size, then tap an empty cell to place a cat; tap it again to take it back. Every row, column and color region must end up with exactly one cat, and no two cats may touch, even diagonally. Auto X marks the cells each placed cat blocks, so the board prunes itself as you go — long press or right click to note your own X whenever you like. Locked starter cats anchor each grid, so the real work is deducing the remaining five or nine cats. When the board stalls, Undo steps back a move and Hint suggests a single cat without spoiling the rest. Finish with no rule broken and your time, best record and solved count update at once.

Tips & strategies

  1. 1.Clear the smallest color regions first — a region with few cells pins a cat early and fences off rows and columns for the rest of the board
  2. 2.Read Auto X like sudoku pencil marks: every blocked cell is information, and a row, column or region reduced to one open cell is a free cat
  3. 3.Check diagonals on every single move — diagonal contact is the rule players miss most, and Auto X exists to catch exactly that mistake
  4. 4.Scan rows and columns as a checklist before placing anywhere; the line that can take a cat in only one cell hands you a placement for free
  5. 5.Stuck late in a board? Spend the Hint instead of guessing — one revealed cat re-floods Auto X and usually unsticks two regions at once

Frequently asked questions

Is Meowdoku free to play?

Yes. GameStrategyHub hosts the browser version free on itch.io, and it plays right here with no download and no account.

How is Meowdoku different from regular sudoku?

It swaps numbers for cats and adds two constraints sudoku never had: every color region holds exactly one cat, and no two cats may touch, even diagonally. It stays pure logic — no guessing needed on any board.

Is this the same Meowdoku as the Android app?

No. This is GameStrategyHub's browser edition from the Drop the Cat puzzle hub. Meowdoku: Cat Sudoku on Google Play is a separate app by a different developer, and only the name overlaps.

Is Meowdoku related to LinkedIn Queens?

The rules match the star-battle style Queens made famous, but this is an independent take — Drop the Cat states on its site that it is unaffiliated with LinkedIn or Microsoft.

Does it have a daily puzzle?

Yes. A Daily Puzzle mode sits alongside the three grid sizes and Progressive Mode, and the solved counter above the board tracks how many grids you have finished.
